Camino de Santiago Day 16: Boadilla del Camino

View from the top!

Today was 17.6 miles and was pretty challenging. The damage to my feet and the blisters are becoming a bit more evident and painful with every step.

Most of the way today was flat, walking for miles in the beautiful but challenging Meseta. About halfway through our day, we climbed a steep but quick peak that took the breath out of most of us but in the end offered remarkable views.

The way down was long and winding. Today I was especially grateful to my Camino familia who helped distract me from the pain I was feeling with every step. We walked through a few quaint towns, had more tortilla and cafe con leches.

By the time I arrived in Boadilla I could barely walk. It was time for a hot shower, some wine and a good meal. Eduardo at En el Camino Hostel was kind and welcoming. We had some of the best lentil soup I’ve ever had and great chicken and French fries. The wine flowed all night. My bed was up in a “tree house-like” loft which was a little difficult to climb up and down in but was certainly unique.

Today I received more news from home that wasn’t positive so it was a mentally challenging day as well. I am very grateful for the people I have met out here who offer compassion, kindness, and grace. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to repay them.

Until manana, Buen Camino!
